1) E5 alp-crossing trek from Oberstorf (Austria) to Meran (Italy)

6 days, 120km length, 10,000m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 3,000m

  • I loved this hike so much that I did it twice in a row – in 2020 and 2021; great experience,

  • important to book cabins early

2) Hochschwab up to the Schiestlhaus-cabin and back

2 days, 16 km length, 1,200m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,100m

  • favorite 2-day hike from Vienna;

  • nice hike, including a very easy via ferrata section; very nice cabin – brief hike to peak away

  • recommend to see the sunrise there

3) Ötztaler Höhenweg:

2 days, 26 km, 2,500m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,800m

  • I did the first two parts of this trail, which was great

4) Tour du Mont Blanc
10 days, 170 km length, 10,600m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,660m

  • booked cabins in December – 9 months before our hike to get spots

5) Törlweg to Rax
1/2 day, 12 km length, 1,100m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 1,600m

  • my favorite half-day hike from Vienna

6) Hohe Veitsch

1 day, 12 km length, 1,900m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,000m

  • favorite full-day hike from Vienna, in winter also nice for snow shoeing (you can also go up with the cable car for parts of the way)

7) Seceda
1 day, 7 km, 1,000m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,500m

  • super nice, especially in fall / spring, when cable cars are not running, hence avoiding crowds

8) Adolf munkel trail

1/2 day, 12 km length, 500m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,000m

  • very easy trail, good with kids

9) Similaun
1 day, 14 km length, 1,000m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 3,600m

  • the second time I did the E5 cross-Alp trek, I extended it with a guided tour to the peak of Similaun over the Similaun glacier – one of the nicest experiences so far

10) Peak of Säntis
1 day, 6 km length, 1,300m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,500m

  • really nice hike and worth to hike up instead of taking the cable car

  • best views are on the way rather than the top

11) Hikes around the Jennerbahn
Multiple hikes

  • great area, also for kids; went up with the cable car and did a couple of hikes there – in winter, with snow shoes

12) Ötztal to Gemeindealpe

2 days, 20 km length, 536m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 1,600m

  • very relaxing hike with options to take a dip in creeks (no picture unfortunately).

13) Fünf-Seen-Wanderung

1 day, 10 km length, 1,600m elevation gain, maximal elevation: 2,600m

  • in Zermatt, going up with a cable car, easy half-day hike with lovely view of the Matterhorn

14) Dreisessel

1/2 day, 6 km length, 300m elevation gain; maximal elevation: 1,300m

  • nice area for a short stroll close to my hometown
